Pearl Dance: A Filthy Sea Voyage
I would have loved to sink him, Mr. Kelada, even though I'd never met him. The war had just ended, the ships crowded, and you took what you could get. A cabin all to myself? Pah! So I shared one with two beds—or so I thought. My heart sank when I heard his name. He was the type who shut the windows and kept out the fresh night air. Bad enough being stuck with some stranger for two weeks (from San Francisco to Yokohama). But this guy! His luggage was already there when I boarded. Too many stickers, oversized suitcases, and this enormous wardrobe trunk! Then I saw it: His toiletries—perfume, hair shampoo, and that fine glitter from Monsieur Coty—were already in the sink. What a perverted dance that would be!
